The University Medical Centre Utrecht is a tertiary care hospital and hosts the faculty of medicine of the Utrecht University. Infection and Immunity is one of six Strategic focus areas of research within this academic institute, that aims to guide the development and implementation of rational and evidence-based infection prevention programs (including vaccination) for medically vulnerable patient-groups, and for societies at large. The UMCU has internationally renowned expertise in setting up and conducting large community-based studies on infectious diseases to quantify disease burden and transmission and to identify key target groups for prevention, using state-of-the-art technologies for monitoring and surveillance.
For the ZIKAction project, UMCU has used this expertise by contributing in the design and conduct of the ZIKApp pilot study.
