Its research is principally focused on severe bacterial, fungal, parasitic and viral infections in paediatric patients.
The Department of Obstetrics is one of the largest maternity units in Spain and includes the Maternal and Foetal Health Research Centre and Research Institute of Vall d’Hebron Hospital, disposing of all the facilities to undergo studies on foetal and maternal assessment.
The Department of Microbiology has the capacity for the analysis of ZIKV, CHKV and DENV in biological fluids. The Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine Department is focused on epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases. It has been pioneer in the establishment of vaccination programs and immunization of patients in special circumstances.
The research group has wide experience in observational studies and clinical trials. The Newborn Department is an extremely busy tertiary referral centre to Catalonia and the rest of Spain for all kind of conditions, with a very active foetal therapy unit and a research group with wide experience in observational studies and clinical trials.
