Coimbra Children’s Hospital, located in the central region of Portugal, has 120 beds with an Emergency Service (ES) seeing children under 18 years of age, mainly from the city but also from the district. The hospital also provides tertiary services for the entire central region of the country.
More than 60,000 children are seen annually in the ES. The hospital will collect data from Portugal, considering that the main vector Aedes aegypti is found on the portuguese island Madeira, and that Portugal has strong connections with ZIKA-affected countries like Brazil and Cape Verde with risk of travel-related cases coming from these areas.
